Extension Work Permit inside Canada while approved when traveling outside

Hi Guys, I and my wife submitted work permit extension at September 2019 when we lived in Calgary, work permit for me and open work permit for my wife. Both permits are approved yesterday. My wife traveled outside Canada since October. Our visa expired at December 2019. When I try to extend my visa for both of us, I just realize that if apply open work permit outside Canada, the temporary residence visa will be issued automatically. In this situation, do my wife need apply extra visitor visa to enter Canada?

Another trouble, the officer will mail new work permit for both of us to our address in Canada, I guess my wife needs new work permit to enter Canada as well. Can anyone help? Thanks so much.

Thanks. If applying TRV, can my wife put the purpose of visit as returning worker or vist? Same question for the CIC online questionnaire "why is she coming to Canada" ? Visitor or work yields different document checklist. She already got Open Work Permit extension approved.

Sorry I may not make it clear. For online questionnaire, if answer worker for question "Why is your family member visiting Canada", the document checklist for my wife will be open work permit application, but she already applied open work permit and got approved.

She needs to apply for her own TRV separately. I believe the work around in the questionnaire is to say she is currently in Canada.
