hello everyone im jean Marc, i from west Africa. and currently studying in British Colombia specially Vancouver since a while now.
so i d like extend my visa who is gonna expire soon. but I've a problem , the immigration is asking for proof of fund. my question is

is it possible to use my own bank account statement instead of using my parents' ?

if yes how much should i have in my account?

because currently i have 5000 dolla. so i hope that it should be ok with that because a friend of mine told me that to extend his visa , he showed as proof of fund with his own bank statement 4500 dolla and he got it.

How many semester have you got left ? If one, then you should be okay.

In my opinion, they don't really focus on proof of funds for study permit extensions. I barely heard of a SP extension refusal due to insufficient funds..

I suggest you to try extending it as soon as possible before we get into summer months where processing time takes longer.

And by the way, I will also apply for SP extension next month with a bank statement that has around 7k$. But I have one semester left so I have heard from a CIC agent that I don't have to show a full year tuition fees in my bank account if I have one semester left or plan to extend my SP for 3 months only.

Good luck anyway with your future process.

Thank you for you answer . Me I'm doing a bachelor degree and it's my third year . So I

got one year left or may be one and half

What do you think ?

And it's like somebody just told that the immigration just wanna see if the parents take care of us. While studying here by sending money in our account every month(1000$) at least . So that means they are gonna look at the past if we received monthly this amount . So the amount of money that is the account doesn't really matter does it ?

That's why I'm asking if it's true cause I have currently 5000$ max in my account .

As long as there are on-going transactions in your bank account during the past 3 months you should be okay.

They care more about transactions and active bank accounts, where money comes in and goes out a lot.

As I told you, you have no choice, just apply and see the result. Better than waiting and wasting time.
