Extension on medical - who to contact?

hello,

I received my medical request the other day, along with my biometric request. I am an American citizen living in South Korea and I submitted my application by mail to Sydney, Nova Scotia in late November. I am having my biometrics taken tomorrow in Seoul before leaving on vacation.

My (Canadian) wife and I are planning on landing in Canada in late February/early March 2021 and I noted this in the application and it is important because our work contracts here will not expire until February 23, 2021. We were also planning to travel a bit in Asia before returning to Canada after our contract is completed. The date on the medical request is Jan 3, 2020 and it says I have 30 days to complete it. We will be in Thailand on vacation until Jan 23 so would have to be done after that time at the earliest.

I want to request an extension given our circumstance so that I can ensure the Medical will remain valid for our planned landing time. I used a form on CIC's website to contact them, but it says that I will not receive a response if my request is within the normal 12 month processing time. Does anyone know an email address or phone number I can use to contact someone and make this request?

Thank you very much,

Thank you very much,
Webform is the only way.

You applied way too early. Outland American apps are generally processed in 6-8 months. You are unlikely to get an extension to the medical to delay your app. Also, your wife is required to show proof of intent to return as soon as the app is approved, which would be way before March 2021. She will likely receive a request in the next 4-5 months just before approval for additional proof of intent to return, which it doesn't look like she will be able to provide given she the work contract.

We included a detailed explanation of our plans and timeline with the application, including a letter from her family saying they are planning to have us stay with them when we arrive at that time. We have also included correspondence with prospective employers with whom we discussed out timeline, The purpose in applying early is simply to be ahead of the game and to avoid the possibility of any delays. What sort of additional proof would they be looking for?

I understand that it's possible to request a refund of fees if they haven't started processing the application. If I have simply received the biometric and medical instruction letters, does that mean they have started processing and I can only get back the right of permanent residence fee? Or do they only start technically processing once they have received biometrics?

It also occurs to me that I could probably just land in Canada and then fly back to Korea and finish my contract since I'll be with my Canadian spouse and we intend to return in February as the application says.

They may have started processing already, no way to know for sure.

The issue is that your spouse may be requested for more proof that she is returning as soon as the app is approved. If she can't show that, it will likely be refused. IRCC has previously requested proof of leaving or giving notice at a foreign job, cancellation of foreign status etc. as proof of intent to return.

If no further proof is requested, you can do the soft landing and return to Korea.

shouldnt be a problem to provide proof of giving notice to her employer. We can get a letter from the provincial office of education where she works. would a return ticket to canada plus that be sufficient?

Maybe. I can't say anything for sure.
