Hi all!

It's been 3 months now since my girlfriend and I moved to Vancouver, and we're having a great time.

I entered the country on May 29 on a Working Holiday Permit, allowing me to work for one year. On June 9th I applied for my PR, which -if all is alright and considering the current waiting times- will be given to me no later than the end of June.

As you probably already can see, there is a gap of one month in which I don't have a work permit. My WHP has run out by May 29 and my PR is not in yet. What to do? I looked around for a little bit and it seems like I have 2 options:
1. Apply for another WHP, in the Young Professional class (my current employer will be happy to provide me with a letter). The thing is that I am not sure if I will be granted that Visa, because I already work for the employer who will provide a job letter for me (you have to attach a resume with your application, so they'll see that I already work for them).
2. Apply for extension of my work permit. I'm not sure if this'll work, because you can't extend a WHP.

Anybody any suggestions what to do?

Thanks!!

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

you could also change your status to visitor. I did that when my WHV expired and I was given a visitor record valid for 6 months (my PR application is still in process, so I have to apply to extend it soon).

Just note that you are NOT allowed to work as a visitor, but if it's really just for a month, you should be fine. Maybe you don't even have to worry about it and your application is processed faster.

Hope that helps!

I sure hope it's faster, thanx

I can't take my chances though, I must have a backup. Being a visitor would be a very last resort, since I have to keep working my job and therefore need a working permit. We do have an office in Holland though, maybe I can work from there until I get my PR.

thanx for the ideas!

Hello,I just wanted to let you know that you CAN apply to extend your work permit!!!-I have done so more than four times!!- :)

Read the OP post. He is on a working holiday visa, which CAN'T be extended.
