Extension of post graduate work permit procedure after passport renewal

Hi Noor,

I am in the middle of PGWP renewal because of the same reason as all of us on this thread. I am however still unsure what method to use- online or paper? You mentioned yours got approved online. Do you know of other people who have done it online as well? I called CIC and they mentioned the only way to get this done is by paper. So I was preparing to submit it via mail. I want to make sure I am doing this right. Could you help?

Sorry to hear that mate. I think this is a lesson for everyone who's trying to apply online. It is safest on paper. It may take long but it is the proper way to do it avoiding any risks.

NoorNoha or others who got approval online must be lucky to have considerate cic agents looking at their files. Not everyone receives the same luck I suppose.

paper application ONLY... if you submit online your application will be rejected! Now when you call IRCC the agent even asks “do you understand you need to apply by mail?”

I agree. I called the cic customer care and they specifically said it needs to be applied by mail and not online.

I applied for an extension of PGWP by mail and also attached a letter specifying the reason for application. I would like to know in how much time did you get your new work permit? The website specifies 121 days.

FYI

I applied online for extension of my PGWP on July 10. I requested for its withdrawal (reason was that I am afraid it will be refused because I applied online instead of paper) on August 13. I submitted application for a new work permit (closed work permit) using my SINP nomination on August 19. But then today (October 30), I got my online PGWP extension application approved. Validity completed a 3-year work permit granted to me overall.

First, they can approve ONLINE pgwp extension application. But yes maybe, it depends on whoever handles your case.
Second, they may not honor a request for withdrawal of an application. It was with a heavy heart that I requested for its withdrawal anyway.
I cannot complain with the result. I am gladdened by it.

The exact answer is in the link below. You will need to apply by mail and don't forget to send a letter to explain your request to get the rest of the 3 years. Also, there should be a special remark but I don't remark that ends with "... ISSUED TO PASSPORT VALIDITY". Anyway, if you know that you are eligible for a 3 year PGWP, go for it. Good Luck!
