Extension of medical validity" my situation?

We received an email on November 20, 2015 requesting for submission of passport.

The letter stated :

Subject to a final review of your file and passport, the permanent resident visa you may be issued will expire in 6 months or at the time your medical examination expires – whichever date comes first. Please ensure that your passport is valid for at least this time. Your medical assessment will expire on 2015/12/22.

November 22 we submitted the passport.

I sent them an email and they finally replied on Dec 09, 2015:

Two options:

To postpone the date of your flight and we will take care of extending the validity of your medical examination ( late than the 22/12/2015)

- To arrange with a courier company (DHL Or FEDEX) to collect the passport from our embassy tomorrow morning so you can have your passport before the 22nd of December.

We chose the option of extending the medicals since it was too risky to choose DHL. It might arrive after the medical expiry date to my country.


At this point I already paid flight tickets and returned to my country so now I'm here waiting with my wife for her passport.

Immigration Canada asked me if I could travel before the end of the year and I said yes as soon as we get my wife's passport back.

Now its nearing the end of the year and I can't get any response from immigration Canada or my visa office in Amman. I've sent them hundreds of emails and no response

We want to know what our situation is. I have to return to Canada to return to work, pay rent, and other obligations!!!

What do I do? How long does the extension of medical validity take???? What's the delay?

If you need to return to Canada, you can do so without your wife and she can follow later. It's not a good idea to book any flights untill you have the PR visa in hand - but what's done is done..

You haven't been waiting that long since your last communication with CIC and it take take a few weeks to extend the medical and process the visa.

There's really nothing you can do but wait.

I'm confused because they specifically asked me in the email if I could travel before the end of the year?

So does that mean they will extend my wife's medical visa until Jan 1st 2016? (What if I don't even get her passport by then) or what? That's why I'm waiting with my wife here and didn't return to Canada yet.

It's hard to comment because you haven't quoted the entire email from CIC that includes this question.

Can someone please explain why they asked me Can you travel before the end of the year?


That's the only part that I dont understand. Are they planning to send me the passport before the 2016 with the medicals extended for a few weeks until 2016?

Don't worry about that. (the only problem might be your air ticket). but for immigration they are able to extend medical results for months;do you have dicision made on your Ecas? if yes you can ask DHL if they have your passport already, but I think when it's sent back also immigration informs you(by email).

So I believed they might extend your medicals to January or February, or something like that.now another problem would be the date you booked with the airline,but if you booked like 30th, nothing means that you might not get your passport on 28th or before.Just be happy that you got your visa.sice many of us are wishing to arrive on that step.

Well I read on these forums that the medical extension is up to 12 months right?

I don't know. Anyone who experienced this?
