Extending work permit by 2 years with Int'l passport thats less than one year

Please, I want to extend my study permit by two years to enable me continue with my program. But my international passport cannot be valid to cover the program. At the moment, my goal is to extend my permit and hold on with the visa renewal until my passport meets the condition of its renewal which is that it must be about six months to the expiring date. Please, do you think that extending my permit with this passport would prevent me from getting the two years study permit extension? Your urgent response is highly needed.

You say workpermit in the subject and study permit in the body text. Which one is it.

Make sure your passport covers your entire study period when you apply. You could run in to problems when you extend. If you already have your permit, you need to extend it as soon as you have a new passport.

You would not get 2 years if you extend your permit now. A permit cannot be extended beyond the expiry date of a passport.

You can apply to extend the permit now to cover you until your current passport expires. Once you have a new passport, you can apply for another extension to cover the remaining time of your studies.

need some advice from you..am a new applicant and going to apply for study permit for september 2014 intake..i have planned to apply by the start of feb 2014..hopefully if i get visa my course will begin in sept 2014 and after four months of commencement of studies i.e january 2015 my passport will be expired..does this trouble me in future regarding extending my study permit or work permit??

what should i do in this regard?? i,ve heard that passport will be renewed from canada as well...if yes then does this renewal of passport will have an impact on my current study permit and in future if i need to extend my study permit??

please advise..this will be highly appreciable..thanks

Yes you can extend your passport from canada and no it won't have any effect on your study permit. Study permit is a completely different thing. You need passport to travel and study permit to study.

CIC does not issue permits beyond the expiry date of a passport. Your study permit would be valid only until your passport expires in January 2015. Passport renewal in Canada depends what country you are from; check with your country's embassy or consulate here in Canada. Once you have a new passport, you can apply to extend your study permit. You must submit the extension application BEFORE your study permit expires in Jan 2015 in order to maintain your status in Canada

if my application will be successful and i got study permit..does this permit starts from the beginning date of my course i.e September 2014 and lasts till my passport expires i.e January 2015? this means my study permit will only be for a period between sept 2014 and jan 2015 i.e 4 to 5 months, am i right??

if it is so then what should i do?? what am thinking is that all i need is to reach canada get my passport renewed and apply for study permit extension..will this be ok or what else do i have to do to cope with this situation??

Happened to my cousin too, he got 4 yrs work permit while his passport gonna expire in two years lol! And when she realize she has made a mistake she was like oh no!! Lol

I just arrived in canada n am in the similar situation..the immigration officer told me

" ur passport expires on so n so date..thats how far we can go..once u get ur new passport, bring me the papers n get ur study permit extended"

so once my expiry date gets closer..like the immigration officer told, i shud get my passport renewed n then take my study letters from the univ/cllg n apply for the study permit extn
