When I apply to extend visitor status online am I able to extend for longer than six months? It says that if you are asking for a length longer than six months you may need medicals, does anyone know if this is in fact the case?

I have not had my medicals done yet as the processing times are so long and I didn't want my medicals to be invalid when they got to my file.

Also one of the questions asks if I am accompanying a family member who has status in Canada, my common-law partner lives with me and is a Canadian citizen, do I answer yes to this? The only reason I ask is that they state the definition of accompanying as "coming to Canada the same time as you, I'm already in Canada and so is she so I'd answer yes to that right?

I did not have medical to renew my visitor visa.
I asked same question in the forum like others and answer is "no medical need"

I mailed my application
with letters from CIC regarding to my application (sponsor approval , file transferred to Manila etc) so I got a year.

hope it helps.

You can ask for as much time as you want. CIC will decide.

The word MAY is there... so yes, sometimes they require it sometimes they don't. CIC decides.

You are not coming to Canada (you are already here), so the answer is NO.

The need for a medical depends on where you were in the year before you came to Canada. See here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-temp.asp
