Extending Visitor Status and NEXUS Membership

Hello everyone,

My husband is currently quarantining with me in Canada and he is a US Citizen who is also a member of the NEXUS Trusted Traveler Program. He's staying with me until the Government reopens the US-Canada land border as it is currently closed. When he entered Canada, he was admitted and not issued a visitor record. So he was given the usual 6 month entry.

However, it is indeed possible that by the time his status is due to expire the border may still be closed, therefore we would probably be looking to extend his stay in Canada and get him a visitor record. Of course there's no guarantee that IRCC would grant this.

I am aware that the moment that a denial is issued he would fall out of status and be directed to leave Canada without delay. He wouldn't have a problem doing this, but if he's fallen out of status, would that be considered an Immigration Violation as per the NEXUS Rules, therefore revoking his membership for 10 years? If so, we would be better off him not applying for an extension and have him return to Blaine.

I am aware that I could sponsor him for Canadian Permanent Residency, however he has brought a house in Blaine and wishes to continue to live there.

Thanks!

Don’t believe the US border is closed to returning US citizens.
Thanks for the reply. Generally, citizens always have a right of entry to their own country. That's not the matter of concern here.

I should have clarified, I'm a Canadian PR. So I can't enter the US with him, and he can't come up here (after he would have exited Canada)

I get that you're trying to anticipate or avoid the worst case scenario for your husband's NEXUS membership, but so long as you're both law-abiding people with a good amount of funds to live in Canada to ride out the quarantine, there's no reason why an extension wouldn't be granted.

I'm not too familiar with the US's current entry rules, so I can't say for sure if entering the US is an option for you. Kind of ridiculous if they're not allowing spouses of citizens, but then again....
