Extending visa validity when pregnant?

Dear all,

I'm looking for help from who have already gone through the immigration procedures while at the same time were expecting a child.

We got medical requests and the great news of pregnancy at about the same time.

We are thinking about waiting with immigration until the baby is born.

If we go under medical checks now, what would be the validity of our visa?
1. date of our medicals + 1 year
2. date of x-ray taken + 1 year (we do not want any risks)
3. date of the medicals of the newborn + 1 year
4. something else

Do you think that we can delay medical exams after delivering the baby? If yes, how much?

Thanks!

Under which FSW u have applied.

Well, better discuss it with some Canadian Lawyers. You can search abt them over internet and they can charge (Can $ 200-400) u by credit card. Don't take risk in these final stages. I can recommend one very good lawyer, but he charges $ 370.

Btw, in intial stages u can have X-rays with special protective shield. Its pretty safe, but do discuss it with ur doc first.

Congratulations for the Baby and Medicla request!!!

Best of luck!!!

Hi

Go get the medicals done now. You don't really have a valid reason to ask for an extension, as the man can complete the whole medical and the woman can complete either the whole medical or everything but the X-ray. You should speak to your doctor about having the chest X-ray done with a lead apron shielding the belly; the risk is very low.

COPR date would be a year from the date of your medicals completed now, let's say July 2015. If you defer the X-ray until after the birth, it will add around another year onto your processing time. At that point, CIC will either extend your medicals until July 2016 or request new ones.

We applied under FSW 2013 program.

I'm interested in your recommended lawyer, so please send me their contact information. Thanks!

Ok, thanks for the answer. Actually we are thinking that the best time for the move would be when the baby is about 6 months old. So if the medicals are extended/new medical is requested when the baby is born that would put our visa validity to the perfect timeframe.

Do you think this is the standard procedure, or this is dependent on the VO and/or visa officer handling the application?

Thanks!

This is a straightforward situation with zero need for a lawyer. Save your money.

Get the medicals done now. If you are wanting to land after the baby is born, then the woman can just defer the X-ray portion until after the birth; the panel physician will give her a form for an X-ray deferral. The physician will inform the VO of the pregnancy and the app will essentially be put on hold until after the birth. After giving birth, she completes the X-ray, the baby has a medical (just a physical, no tests), you get the baby's documents together and add the baby to the app. As I said, at that point, they will extend the medicals or ask you to do new ones and then issue the COPRs.
