Extending IEC work permit while applying for spouse visa

Hi,

I am an Australian living in Toronto. I am on an IEC work permit and I have been here for 2.5 years. My partner of 6 years is Canadian and we are applying for a Spouse visa. I would like to extend my work permit while we are applying.

Does anyone know if I have to go through the IEC application again or can I use the extended work application (Guide 5553 - Applying to Change Conditions or Extend Your Stay in Canada - Worker)?

IECs cannot be extended.

You would need to go through the IEC application process again (assuming you qualify).

Do you know if submitting my Spouse visa from within Canada application will allow me to stay and work in Canada while it is being processed?
