Extending Holiday Working Visa

Hi
I am a Canadian citizen and my boyfriend recently came to Canada on a working/holiday visa. He has been living with me for the past 8 months and his visa is going to expire soon (March 2011). He was reading online that you cannot extend a working/holiday visa if you have already worked for 1 year in Canada, but he is desperate to stay because we want to continue our relationship and he found a well paying job at an aluminium factory. He wants to extend his visa until September but does not believe he is eligable to do so.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of visa extension?? Time is running out and we need to get this done as soon as possible.
Please, any help would be greatly appreciated!!

well depends what type of skill worker he is, i know my friend is a low skill worker and he can work up to 2 yrs before he is required to go home for 4 months...
did u try to call the cic call center: 1888-242-2100 (i never used this line but will soon because i can't always find answers to my questions here online)

I can't see why he wouldn't be able to renew his work permit? really all he needs is a new Labour Market Opinion for the new job and contract and renew online.

The employer can apply for LMO in his favour (if no Canadian citizen or PR applies/qualifies) after advertising the vacancy/position on the job bank. Then he applies for a WP.

Okay so all he needs to do is get his company to apply for an LMO and then apply for an extension? If he applies online - pays the fees and such, and doesn't get a response before his Visa expires then he has implied status and can continue working, correct? I called the CIC call centre and they said the approximate processing time is 102 days and that if the application is not yet approved then that's what he would get, but how will he or his employer know that he is under implied status? Do they send him a document in the mail?
Sorry for all the questions I am new to this whole process and he is as well... we are desperate for him to stay in the country for just a bit longer!
How long does it take for a company to receive an LMO?
Thanks again everyone!

for the lmo it depends for how long the company has been advertising the job and for how long they haven't had canadians interested in it....
if they already employ immigrants there, then they would already have a contact person for LMO and that shouldn't take long to get if they have done so in the past for other employees. if they never did it may take longer but i wouldn't know how long. Have you called the potential employer and asked?

My boyfriend says that many people who work there aren't Canadian but is unsure if they have become citizens or not.. He says almost EVERYONE is from somewhere else in the world. He is part of a union, I don't know if that changes anything but I will inform him about the LMO when he gets in from work so he can inquire about it tomorrow at work.

yes he should def ask his boss or whoever do their Human Resources stuff if they will get a Labour Market Opinion for him to apply for the proper work permit, that should take care of the visa and all.
