Extending a open work permit with a positive PNP letter

Hi I have a friend that is one a open Work permit that expires in april
he applied PR under the Alberta PNP program with a Immigration Lawyer

The Lawyer told him that he must wait for his AOR from his PR application in order to extend his WP, but when I read the CIC website its says he only needs the PNP letter

dos anyone has any experience with this type of case?
can he apply to extend his WP with just the PNP letter?

Im in the same situation if he has PNP then he is good to go. The PNP also gives an AOR

Just to clarify if you go through express entry the AOR they want is the first one they send you when your submit your application

Supporting documents
When you submit your application, you must provide all supporting documents listed in your document checklist. You must also include a copy of your Acknowledgment of Receipt letter from CIC.

If you applied for permanent residence online through Express Entry, this letter is automatically sent to your MyCIC account when we get your application.

Thanks I will let him know that he can use the PNP letter but it will be better if he holds on till end of Feb so he can send both
