extend your stay as a visitor ( Visitor Record ) online in May / June / July 2020

We are in the boat of awaiting a Permanent Resident application to be processed (from June 2020 so not expecting an answer anytime soon). Common Law partner needs to apply for a visitors visa extension as his 6 months he was originally given expires Feb 15. When it asks how long we'd like to extend it for is 6 months the limit? Or can you ask for longer? Just unsure oh how long to ask for because obviously the longer the better.

how does this affect the ones who had their status expired and applied for restoration, before Jan 30?

Hi Guys,
My mother entered Canada on 16-Nov-2020.
Her stay is valid till 16-May-2020.
Now, based on the replies, I understand that even if I apply for her extension today, it will take atleast 198 days to process and get the approval from IRCC.
Does it mean that as long as we apply for extension, she can stay in Canada even though her current stay validity is till 16-May-2021 ?
Any insights ?

Yes, she can stay until she gets the response on the extension request. If her stay is valid until 16 May, then you still have time to submit the extension request. Usually IRCC guideline is 30 days prior to expiry but you can submit till the last day.
Beautiful people, my visitor record has been approved... Had applied in June 2020 and it was approved on 01.18.2021 until mid-Feb 2021...will apply for an extension as soon as I receive the physical document... PR application also in progress since Oct 2020...Good luck to everyone...
Congrats! Did you request for extension until mid-Feb, or was it approved beyond your requested date?
I have filed for my parents extension of stay in Jul and only requested extension until Jan 31, but would like for them to be able to stay further. Hence, wondering if they will be approved beyond the requested date of Jan 31.

Usually they approve extension 30 days from the day the make decision on Application in some cases they give more days than that too it’s depend on applicant
I think it’s no thing to do what applicant ask for extension months
That’s what my understanding is ...
