Express entry profile Ineligible

Just submitted my profile anyway and apparently I don't meet the minimum entry criteria. I'm a bit shell shocked after other CIC info / online eligibility tests have said precisely the opposite for months. Either those prelim tests are wholly unreliable and give false indications to prospective applicants, or there's a bug in the system now. Plus it would be good to know which of the minimum criteria I've fallen down on - how do I find out??

Some common problems -

- You will need at least 1 year of full-time CONTINUOUS work experience (same employer, no gaps)
- ... in the same NOC you indicate as your primary occupation...
- "date qualified to practice" has messed up some people, and the question doesn't even make sense for a lot of us...
- "self employed" doesn't count for EE eligibility...

What is the date qualified to practice? I assume it is the date I got my Bachelor's degree, since I worked as an Engineer!! Right?

July 2007 to September 2008 is not at least 1 full year ?
And no, it doesn't have to be with the same employer. As long as there are no gaps, you can be employed with 5 different employers for all they care.
But it MUST be in ONE NOC code.

Agree that for FSW can be multiple employers, but I think for EE it's different... still trying to find a reference tho -

Well, both of my work experiences are in one NOC and with one employer. Even if the system is not considering the second work experience, the first one should be enough!

Did you make sure you meet the FSW point threshold of 67 points? (You have to meet the eligibility criteria of both EE and one of the skilled worker programs)

Thanks for this, although some of that detail isn't asked for in the 'Come to Canada' test, so wouldn't have been an issue at that point. My scores on everything are fairly good (see my first comment) and I've tried testing the thing by altering a few fields (age, funds, job offer) and nothing changes the outcome, so it's something more fundamental. The test looks more like it's for CEC than FSW?

It's a concern that self employment is seen as a negative - that's a key part of my work history and will be again soon. I would apply for the Self Employed visa if it didn't take 4 years to process the application. But as I say, that didn't even feature in the Come to Canada test, which somehow now tells me I'm ineligible.

My age I'm stuck with (46), but I've maxed out my education, language scores and (non Canadian) work experience. I hope I'm not flogging a dead horse with EE.

Self-employment is simply harder to verify - if you have an employer who can attest to your work duties, it's more easily verified.

I just plugged in your information in the "Come to Canada" tool and it also showed "not eligible." (Ran it for only one language).

I ran it again for the 2nd language - even though the tool is messed up (doesn't give appropriate options for the French language exam), it came back as "eligible."

So if you know some French and are willing to do another language exam, it might be enough to put you over the threshhold...

Remember, you still need to be eligible for one of the programs (FSW in your case), and there's a different point system for that program, 67 points is the minimum...

Yes, I have 71 out of 100.

I'm still unsettled about this so I've just re-tried the Come to Canada tool several times, amending one detail each time, to see which combination would result in an eligible profile.

Having arranged employment was still ineligible; being 10 years younger, also ineligible; increased funds, same again; having a good second language score, no change; changing my preferred destination, same again.

However, entering that I have one year of Canadian work experience took me immediately to the page saying that I *am* eligible, with a reference number and a link to MyCIC. I didn't need to compete the form before that page popped up - I was considered eligible without the tool asking me for any other info on work experience, funds, number of family members, job offer, age, or education.

Saying I had skilled trades experience did the same thing, just one step later.

Reading the posts from people who (like me) are a bit surprised at finding themselves newly ineligible for whatever reason, I just wonder how many of those are aiming for FSW, and whether the Come to Canada tool is (currently) calibrated in favour of CEC and skilled trades applicants, and controlling the number of FSW applicants in the EE pool?

Note: I'm not complaining - I just want to understand the situation.

...and might this explain why some people aiming squarely for CEC are ultimately getting ITAs for FSW?
