Hello all. Well done on getting an ITA.

I am having trouble in the personal history section and need your advice.

It requires the candidate to input their personal history over the past 10 years without leaving time gaps however, I need to put in periods where I was travelling/backpacking.

Choices for activities within a period of time are:
Educational
Military
Organizational
Employment
Government

What option would be good to choose? I was thinking Educational, but doing the following:
in the description box, type travelling
in the company name box, type, unemployed due to travel

I have called CIC and the agent said they couldnt tell me and emailed a generic link to the EE info page.

Your help is appreciated, thanks in advance.

James.

To be honest, nobody knows correct answers. This is new to all.
I would go for education-traveling. I also fill out his way.

Hey punks!

I was told to leave gaps by my lawyer and not to pick activity that misrepresents what i was actually doing.
The solution is optional letter of explanation underneath the application.

For whatever gaps in time you left blank in questionnaire explain why and state what were you doing in that period

I hope I helped

Thank you for your responses guys.

So, in fact, MarCro is right. I made another call out to CIC and they had suggested the same thing.

Good luck folks :)

I was pretty relieved reading this but now that I actually filled out everything I realized that the form doesn't let you leave gaps. How did you guys end up filling these gaps?

Please read up Express Entry (e.g. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/) and find/create an appropriate thread if you have specific questions.

I can't believe that so few of us have a personal history with gaps.
How did you guys fill the gaps that inevitably occur if you went traveling for instance or did something else that is none of the activity types?

Hi toben, did you figure out what to do with the gaps?

I have mentioned gap is because of my preparation for interviews after my Grad. Accordingly, I also posted explanation in the Letter of explanation document.
HTH.

For travels I created an "employment" row and put in something along the lines of "Unemployed / Traveling".
In my address history I extended the time I actually lived at a certain place. For example, if I lived in a certain place from Jan 1 until Feb 28 and I left the country to go traveling Mar 1 until Mar 30, I stated that I was living there Jan 1 until Mar 30 because technically this would have been my "home" during that time.

Not saying this is the way to do it but it is what made most sense to me.

Click the empoyment

activity-unemployed/travelling
unemployed/vacation
unempolyed/looking for job
unemployment

company name -not applicable,

That's what i did,it's makes me sense. If u choose educational activity, its ask u to fill the certification details.

I'm stuck on this personal activities page as well. I covered everything from my 18th birthday (and even before that), but I still get a validation error. Do my records have to me entered in chronological order? May it be a problem? Or maybe is there a problem because I was working and studying at the same time and some of my activity records overlap?
Here's a screenshot what I'm getting: http://prnt.sc/cwtnbx

It seems that there is a gap somewhere in the dates that you have mentioned, a gap of even one day will throw a validation error.
