Hello,
apologies if someone has already asked this (I was looking but could not really find something like this).
I have a few questions regarding Federal Skilled Workers program. We received an invitation to apply on the 10th of April, unfortunately it was cancelled around 28th of July. It happened because we had not received police certificate clearance from US by the application deadline. We provided the letter of explanation that we have applied for this clearance and told that we would upload it as soon as we get it. Unfortunately, few dates after police clearance arrived the application was cancelled before we had any chance to send it.
We have appealed via Case Specific Enquiry and sent the police clearance along. But on the 17th of September they said they would not reopen our case saying that the reason for it was already given first time they cancelled it.
Now we have decided to apply again and we are now waiting for another invitation to apply. The questions are:
1) Some of police certificates from various countries are now about 6 month old -how long are they valid for?
2) Medical certificates would be about 5 months old - is this still fine or we need to obtain new ones?
3) The company of the principal applicant does not give referral letters in the format requested by FSW Program. We can provide several documents from the company, including payslips, employment verification letter, employment contract, job descriptions from web adverts and company website which sort of cover all the bits of information requested by them for employment. But we do not have all of that in the form required by FSW Program, i.e. in one reference letter. Last time our application was rejected on the basis of the missing police certificate only, therefore, our employment documents might not even have been assessed by them. Would such documents be sufficient for them?
4) Dependent candidate have worked for two companies which no longer exist (they were quite small and we cannot get in touch with their owners anymore). Last time we provided declarations from former colleagues from each of them. Is this OK?
5) We have received a letter of interest for provincial nominee program Ontario. Our score is already 477 - is it worth to apply for Ontario program as well? My understanding is that it is only going to give us 600 extra points. Is this correct?

Thanks so much for reading all this and for your help!

For your current country of residence, PCC cannot be more than 6 months old at the time of post ITA submission. For all other countries, PCC is valid indefinitely provided you haven't lived in that country after getting the PCC.

2) Medical certificates would be about 5 months old - is this still fine or we need to obtain new ones?

You will have to redo medicals. They cannot be more than 6 months old at the time of post ITA submission.

Would such documents be sufficient for them?

This would depend on 2 things - if the submitted documents have all required information legitimately and accurately available AND the officer's discretion.

4) Dependent candidate have worked for two companies which no longer exist (they were quite small and we cannot get in touch with their owners anymore). Last time we provided declarations from former colleagues from each of them. Is this OK?

Doesn't matter if their experience was acquired outside Canada as you will get no points for that regardless of what you submit for such experience. If their experience was within Canada, same as above.

5) We have received a letter of interest for provincial nominee program Ontario. Our score is already 477 - is it worth to apply for Ontario program as well? My understanding is that it is only going to give us 600 extra points. Is this correct?

Definitely not worth it.

Thanks so much for reading all this and for your help!

Well since you have a decent score of 477, and going by the last draw cutoff of 450. It is more likely that your file would be picked up in the general draw.

I have filed my online application on 16th Oct and received a Province Nomination from Ontario on 17th Oct. However I am not planning to take this nomination as I have 472 points.

So lets hope for the best.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the answers.

One more thing that worries me is about the work reference for the principal candidate. As I mentioned in the first post the company would not give referral letter in the format CIC want. We then submitted a copy of the contract along with few recent payslips, job add from their website, supervisor business card, company reference where is stated that the candidate is still working there, when started at the company and the yearly salary(this is a large, well known American company) The first time we applied they cancelled our application on the graund there was a USA police clearance missing (although we enclosed a letter of explanation that we had applied and waiting for it).
They didn't say anything about the work experience proof we provide.
My questions are:
1 Is it possible they didn't look at look at this and only checked whether all documents are there?
2 As they didn't say anything about work experience proof is it they checked it and were satisfied?

As I said earlier, whether this experience gets you points or not would depend on 2 things - if the submitted documents have all required information legitimately and accurately available AND the officer's discretion.

Very likely. But one cannot say for sure unless you have access to GCMS notes for your cancelled application.

2 As they didn't say anything about work experience proof is it they checked it and were satisfied?

Less likely. Back in June/July, PCC checks used to happen much earlier as part of the application process before they got into the nuts and bolts of your overall application.

As per CIC:
Your medical exam results are valid for 12 months only. If you do not come to Canada as a permanent resident within that time, you may need to have another exam.

Visit http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-perm.asp for more details.

1- Do we have to merge all files in one PDF OR do we have to make a PDF portfolio in Adobe Reader?

2- If we merge POF files in one PDF, do we have to place LOE in very start as funds are gift and LOE consists explanations related to all documents in one merged file.

Thanks for the answers.
It's the work history I am more worried about.
All the documents are merged in one PDF file.

The link regarding the medical exam does say they are valid for 12 months, but the Express Entry info estates: "The results of your exam are only valid for 12 months. When you submit your application for permanent residence, the results of your exam must be valid for at least 6 months".

"cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-how.asp"

It seems information is not consistent throughout CIC website.
