I'm the main applicant. I'm 48 and my education is 16 years (M. A English), and work experience 6 yrs continuous, Total experience 16 yrs.

First off, check your "Six Selection Factor" Eligibility (67 points minimum is required to be eligible) (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp)

Then calculate the CRS score (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp).

My suggestion would be for you and your spouse to re-attempt the IELTS and max out the points.
