Hi,

Can anyone confirm after landing on 12-Sep-14 in Toronto how much time it will be required to get passport. I have the news now it will need 6 years to stay in Canada to get passport... is it true.....

You would probably fall under the new Citizenship Act, 4 years residency in the past 6 year, with at least 183 days in Canada in 4 of those years, as well as filing income taxes.

But Cic.gc.ca is still showing this status, can you please explain

Time you have lived in Canada

You must have resided in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before you apply. This does not apply to children under 18.

You may be able to count time you spent in Canada before you became a permanent resident if it was during the past four years.

Use our online tool to find out if you have lived in Canada long enough to apply to become a citizen.

Because the New Citizenship act has not been enacted, it is expected sometime in the next year, so the new 4/years in 6 will be the law before you are eligible to apply under the present Act.
