There’s a new covid provision that allows people extend their work permit, you should do that. But generally you can apply for PR as long as the work experience gained was during the validity of you work permit.

What provision are you talking about. Is this about extending PGWPs? I don‘t think OP is on a PGWP.

Having current status in Canada is not a requirement for PR applications. However, being in Canada without status could harm your application, if that is the case.
