Expired TRV about to expire Study Permit

Hello,

I’m a second year student at Dalhousie University. I have recently been having issues renewing my passport because of student military exemption lengthy process in my home country. This forced me to not be able to renew both my TRV and Study Permit. I’m currently outside Canada in my home country, I finally got a new valid passport, my TRV expired way back but my Study Permit expires on the 16th of September. I have already applied for a TRV 2 days ago online and chose the “Valid Study Permit” since it does not specify how long it should be valid for. Is there anything I should do differently or anything else I should apply for ? Please advise !

As your study permit expires in 2 days, you should have applied for a study permit extension as well. The TRV is unlikely to be approved, as the study permit will have expired by the time IRCC reviews the TRV app.

Do you think if I apply for an extension now from outside Canada, my chances of getting the TRV approval would be better ? I assumed they would let me in as a visitor and then I could restore student status but guess I’m wrong

Yes, I believe chances would be better if you applied for the study permit extension as well.

If you came to Canada as a visitor, you would not be applying for Restoration. You would have to apply for a new study permit and you would have to apply to a visa office outside of Canada. Chances of approval generally decrease when applying while in Canada.
