Hi guys,

I am currently on an expired PR but have met the required 2 years of stay in Canada. My PR expired in 2008.

My questions:
1. How long can I stay on this expired PR for? Will it get canceled after a certain number of period? If yes, how much time is given to renew?

2. Is the 2 year stay within Canada the only requirement to apply for a new card? I can't find any info on the website regarding documents that need to be presented e.g. bank statement, proof of address etc.

3. If I decided to apply for citizenship: do I need to have a valid PR card? or can I used the expired PR card?

4. What documents are required for citizenship? (other than the required 3 years stay)

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Your PR is not expired. Only your PR card is expired. It will not affect your PR status that your card has expired. You can renew it any time as long as you have your 2 years in the last 5 in Canada.

You can find the application guide and form to apply for your new PR card here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/prcard.asp

As far as I know, you do not need a valid PR card to apply for citizenship.
