Greetings,

I'm Canadian and my wife is Chinese. We have two kids (Canadians). Her PR card expired in September 2011. We tried to renew it, it took a year or so before they told us the picture was wrong (we did go to a studio). Since June 23rd 2011 we've been in China. Kids learning Chinese.

Now I am currently going back to my old job in Vancouver (~70K/year). Find a house, school, etc. My wife and kids will come this summer. At this point in time, my wife PR card is expired.

My question is how does my wife come back to Canada? The kids are fine, they're Canadians. But their mother, my wife, must come back. What is our course of action here?

Thank you very much for your time.
It's much appreciated.

1. She applies for a Travel Document at either Bejing or Hong Kong or Shanghai
2. Here are the instructions for Bejing: http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/china-chine/visas/tdpr_apply-demande_tvrp.aspx

since you are CITIZEN of CANADA ,your wife's time abroad with you will count against her RESIDENT days.
Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen. I've sponsored my wife to get a PR card.
Our son is a Canadian citizen as well.
My wife asked to renew her card in 2011, but unfortunately we had to return to my wife's home country before the new card was ready.

Now 2018 we are ready to settle in Canada.
Her PR card has been expired since 2011.

I read in this thread that since I am a Citizen of Canada, my wife's time abroad with me will count against her Resident days.

My wife must come back with me and our son.

We are planning to cross the Canadian border at Peace Bridge in Fort Erie, Ontario. Can she hand her expired PR card in to the border officer?

How should we proceed at the border?
Please let me know.

Thank you,

PCM
