Expired PR card and urgent need to enter Canada

Hello. I am permanent resident but left Canada two years ago as I needed support back home with my triplets born in Canada.
My PR expired in November 2015 and I did not renew because I do not intend to live in Canada in the near future. However now I urgently need to go to Canada to support my older daughter who is expecting a baby in July.
I can't request a travel document because I have not met residency obligations. I can't apply for a visa as yet because technically I am still a permanent resident.

I do not mind renouncing my PR status but I don't understand the implications on my assets in Canada: Apartment, bank account, credit card, mortgage, etc, and I have no garantee I will have the visitor visa after renouncing.

I was also advised that I could enter with my expired PR through the US.

Help! What is your take on this? Please advise what is the best way I can enter Canada end July.

Hi,

It looks like you want to enter Canada and want to stay here for shorter duration only (3-4 months).

The easiest and fastest way will be to enter Canada by road via US (provided you have valid US VISA). Even if you were reported by CBSA for not meeting RO, you can still enter and appeal their decision. As you don't have any intention to stay in Canada in near future for long term (except for this short term), later on during the appeal period (which is usually 1-2 years) you can withdraw your appeal and will loose your PR status and have to leave Canada.

You can apply for PRTD also but that can take more time as you have not stayed in Canada in past one year and not meeting RO can also add to the delay.

I can be incorrect, other forum members will correct me.

Thanks for your prompt replies. I hold a Cameroonian passport.
So basically you have just a few options.
1. Fly to US, and cross into Canada by private car or walking
2. Renounce your PR status and apply for a TRV to come as visitor
3. Apply for PR TD as mentioned above, but it will probably be denied and your PR revoked, in which case you can choose to appeal it or accept it and get TRV instead
