Hi all!

Just a quick question.

My husband procrastinated on filling out his papers until the last minute and then discovered that police certificates can't be older than 90 days. His California one just hit the 90 day mark and the FBI one is fixing to.

So my question is, should we just submit the paperwork anyway, with the expired items and then re-do his fingerprints and send them in separately as soon as they come in? Or should we wait until they come in and then send it all in?

I mean either way there is a delay  but I'm not sure which option is worse. The finger prints take anywhere from 1-2 months to come in and by that time I'm guessing we will have a case number to send them in to.

What ye think?

I will submit all the paperwork together with the existing PCC. The visa office may ask to submit the new one and in the mean time the new PCC could be on the way.

If you can, submit the application before the FBI certificate expires. The state certificate is not a requirement so it won't matter if it is expired.

rjessome: Oh I figured the state certificates were necessary since it said anywhere you've lived for more than 6 months! He's lived in Cali and one other state so we got police certificates from both those states.

I guess the next crappy thing was the fact that we can't see a doctor until Feb 16 - they are both booked solid! The FBI one will expire long before that. So can I send the medical in "late" as well?

Thanks for the help, totally appreciate your time. :D

Oh boy. I guess it's time for you to take control of matters because hubby just ain't gettin' it done, is he? Men! LOL My husband would never have gotten our stuff done if I hadn't taken the lead on this too. Sorry to all the guys who are getting it done! This derogatory comment obviously excludes you. :p

In your shoes, I would apply for another FBI certificate now and wait until you get that AND the medical done. You might be able to squeak by with an expired FBI certificate if the medical is done if you tell them that you've ordered a new FBI certificate and will send it when you get the file number from Buffalo. But really, what's the point? If you request a new FBI certificate now, you will get it about a month after the medical is done. It's up to you. But don't submit it without the medical. It will get sent back to you as incomplete.

For the USA, CIC may request state police certificates but it's not a requirement (like the FBI is) to submit the application. CIC will let you know later if they want state certificates. But if you've got them, send them.

Just a word of advice, please TRIPLE check the forms that were completed by hubby. If he left this until now, you want to be 100% sure that he didn't forget some other pertinent information that could lead to bad results.

rjessome: LOL I know right. I was so mad when I found out the certificates had expired when this could have been done months ago. Not that they make it a welcoming and easy process. It's almost as bad as doing taxes. Fortunately my part has been done for months but by the time he got to his, I had to change a few things. In the end I'm glad we finally just sat down together and did it all together. I'm double and triple checking things, I definitely don't want to do this all over again. What a total PITA!

I'll just get him to re-do the FBI set and send it in with the medical stuff as recommended. They can just get over the expired state ones or request it again. :p How did you find out that state police clearances aren't mandatory?

The Region Specific Guide for the US says any "country" you have lived in for 6 months or more since the age of 18. They DID require the FBI and state certificates for awhile back in 2009 (I think it was 2009) but then changed it back to just the FBI certificate, reserving the right to ask for state certificates later if they want them.

Yeah, I know CIC believes this stuff is easy and anyone can do it themselves. If that were true there would be nobody on these forums.

:D ;D Your partner is lucky. My husband hates paperwork of all kinds and leaves that stuff for me. That's ok. He has garbage duty.

I'm with you rjessome ..my hubby hates it too. The other night I was sitting on the bed surrounded by immigration paperwork and my laptop and there was my hubby snoring away on his side with a pillow on his head.
