Hi everyone
just posting this incase others searching for answers.

I landed in September 2018 for the first time. I left to go back home for a wedding. I entered Canada for the 2nd time with only my passport and CoPR as my card had not yet arrived

I landed at the detriot/windsor land border and presented my CoPR and passport.

no delays and only a few questions about my travels and was granted entry.

Yes, that will work fine as you made your way from the US to a Canadian land border where CBSA could check everything on their systems.

As I am sure you know, given your new found PR status, you would not have been allowed to board an aircraft bound for Canada without either a (valid and 'in date') PR Card, OR a PRTD. They are now cancelling any prior ETA (if you are visa exempt). The problem would be that the airlines have strict rules to adhere to and do NOT have access to the CBSA systems.

I know it is crazy especially as PR Cards take 3 months or more to arrive, why they don't just automatically issue you with a PRTD as a matter of course when you are landed as PR I have no idea!!!
