Preferably after the ITA, so they have as recent a date on them as is possible.

For your past employers, you can keep all letters ready now itself, the date does not matter. These letters are valid indefinitely. Only in case of your current employer, you can wait for sometime.

Stanlee is right.. I had my previous work records all prepared from my past employer. I already had an experience letter from my past employer but i requested a new one which was more Canadian requirement style. once I got ITA I asked the company I was working for for an experience letter and told them about the key points that I needed mentioned in my letter, such as, hours of work, days of work, my pay and exact designation along with my duties and responsibilities.

Hope this helps :)

The requirement states the following.

The following documents are mandatory for each work experience declared:
a reference or experience letter from the employer, which
- should be an official document printed on company letterhead (must include the applicant’s name, the company’s contact information [address, telephone number and email address], and the name, title and signature of the immediate supervisor or personnel officer at the company),
-should indicate all positions held while employed at the company and must include the following details: job title, duties and responsibilities, job status (if current job), dates worked for the company, number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits; and

If the work experience is in Canada, proof may include copies of T4 tax information slips and notices of assessment issued by the Canada Revenue Agency (the time period for these documents should reflect the work experience timeframe [e.g., work experience from 2006 to 2008 requires only documents from those calendar years]).

Thanks guys i am already collecting experience letters from my past work, the format is close to what is asked for by the cic but not identical will that be ok??then when i recieve the ita will ask my current employer to write me an experience letter as well, also there is a short period of unemployment during the last 10 years, will that cause any issue? Thanks
