Hi All,

I received an ITA for the February 7th draw. I am the primary applicant annd my spouse is the secondary applicant. During the expression of interest, I have mentioned positions for my spouse as well as myself for which we have not claimed points for. These jobs were some time in the past and we do not have recent reference letters with the salary and job duties for those jobs. We are unable to request the new reference letters as we are away from our country and moreover the human resource personnel at our old jobs who would help with the reference letters are no longer around.

Now,

Can we submit the old documents for the jobs which we have not claimed points for? We have only the title, dates of employment stated on the letters which are about 3-4 years old.

Will this hurt our application? I have uploaded all the relevant documents for the recent job from which I have claimed full points for employment.

Now, do I have to provide the recent and full documentation, i.e.
1. Job duties
2. Salary

for the jobs for which we have received no points for? Can I not explain this in my explanation letter?

Thanks!!!

You can submit whichever documents you have but tbh it is a waste of time as your spouse's foreign work experience is irrelevant to your application.

The upload panel for the employment documents states the following:

"
You must provide proof of work experience for your current job and for each past position you listed. Proof must include a reference letter from your employer and pay stubs, if you have them. The reference letter must:
  • be an official document printed on company letterhead
  • include your name, the company's contact information (address, telephone number and e-mail address), the signature of your immediate
  • show all positions held while employed at the company
  • include these details: job title, duties/responsibilities, job status (if current job), the dates you worked for the company, the number of work hours per week and your annual salary plus benefits.
You must scan all documents for this period of employment and save them as one file. (You must create a separate file for each period of employment.)

"

But, do I have to upload with all of the above information for jobs for which no points were awarded? If not, then why does the checklist and document upload panel has the instructions for all positions? Our old reference letters do not have the following information: duties/responsibilities, the number of work hours per week and annual salary plus benefits. Neither do we have the pay stubs for those. If I did upload the old letters without the above information, wouldnt our application stand a chance being rejected, regardless of whether points were claimed or not, because the information is deemed incomplete?

I am really concerned about this as I dont want to make any mistake with my application.

Thank you again!

There are placeholders for her previous employments because you stated her work experience in the work history section. The easiest approach would've been to state them only in the personal history section Post-ITA and leave the work history section blank.

You can still make the change and explain in a LOE the irrelevancy of her foreign work experience.

She had already mentioned all of her previous employment records in her application for the Canadian visitors visa, so I had no option but to state all of her employment history when I was filling out the expression of interest.

I think I will do as you have advised and remove her emplyment experience and explain the rest in the letter of explanation. That should not affect the completeness of the application? Maybe the other members will also be able to advise me on this?

Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
my application got rejected and they gave me 2 reasons,
1) 'no proof of fund documents' ( I didn't submit bank documents, my mistake, but that was a long story)
2) 'I may or may not have claimed points for Canadian employment' ( I applied under FSW - Inland, I never claimed any points for Canadian work because it was a non-skill job, so i didn't submit any proof)

I got so confused with the 2nd reason so I kept asking the VISA officer what the heck is about the 2nd reason but they never explained sh*t.

So if you are not submitting any letter of proof for the employment please explain it the Letter of explanation that you didnt claim any points and you cannot submit proof of employment.
good luck man

Hi ChemEmanju,

Thank you for sharing your experience. What I am planning to do is this:

I will still submit the old letters of experience in the usual placeholder. After that, I plan to clearly explain in my LOE that I am submitting the old documents (which will contain incomplete information). And I will also explain that submitting old documents should not matter because I am not claiming points for those work experiences for my spouse or myself. Hopefully, that should satisfy CIC?

Or do you think it is better if I don't submit anything (work letter) but instead explain it in the LOE?

Also, do you know what format the bank statement needs to be in? Do I need to show all the transactions for the last six months?

Thank you again for your reply.

If i am right, i think your wife's work experience does play an important role in your score (or maybe I am wrong).
if you mentioned any skilled jobs for your wife, I am pretty sure you gotta submit experience letter.

not transaction just 6 months statement, or just a letter from your bank stating that you have an account with this bank for past 5 years and you have this much money in your account(a/c number) that is readily available to use anytime like that.

LOE is very important, it explains lot of things to the visa officer

Hi all,

My situation is 8.5 band in ielts, masters degree and enough funds to prove but,

I have 5 years of experience as following

2010 to 2011 - for which i am able to get reference letter , have paystubs, and relieving letter and tax docs (Experience from UK)
2011-2012 - Company has closed down so only offer and relieving letter (no reference letter)
2012-2015 - worked for family business

now if i just show my 1st experience i have got crs of 449...which make me eligible as 1 yr of exp in past 10 years is enough.... so can i show only that and state other 2 in my personal activity section......and explain in LOE . will this work?

Main question is will this old experience be considered by VO. point to be noted is when i creat my ee profile with just 1 year of experience its shows i am eligible, so shoud i go ahead the way i mentioned

Hi All,

I have been following this website for some time now but posting for the first time. I will just straight away get to my question.

A. Worked in India for 1.5 years after completing my Bachelors (2008-2010)
B. Worked in US for one year after competing my MBA from Columbia (2013)
C. Worked in an Indian Start-up for a little over two years (2014-2015)
D. Working with the Government Sector for the last 2.5 years (2016-present)

Now. I have the employment reference letter in the prescribed format for jobs B and D. For A and C, I only have joining letters etc.

Will it be ok if I put A & C under personal history and B & D under work history as anyways you can get the maximum points for experience over 3 years.

Thanks in advance :)

Yes if you have enough points without them

One doubt: what if I realise that for one of the work experience mentioned in EE it is difficult to get the reference letter - so after ITA can i make changes to profile without loosing my ITA?

My previous company told me they will not give me a reference letter as it is not in their policy. I could not ask my current company for a letter as I could not tell them I am applying for PR. So, for my previous company I sent them a table which included all the information that CIC asked for, and asked them to just mention on email whether that information is correct or not. They were happy to do that. So I saved that email as a PDF document. For my current job, I drafted a letter on a plain paper and mentioned everything that CIC wanted, and wrote the letter from the perspective of a colleague (not HR or a reporting manager). I also attached my offer letters from both these places. Then in my Letter of Explanation, I mentioned my exact situation honestly, and also gave them couple of links to our company's website where they talk about our department and the work that is done for the role that I had an offer letter for.
My application was approved without any issues within a month. It may not be the same in your case, or it may be. The key idea is to just be honest in your application, they consider genuine cases and make exceptions if needed. Let me know if you would like me to share the employment letter that I drafted or the letter of explanation content that I sent.
