Expediting a work permit

Hi all:

As I mentioned in another thread, I am in the process of extending my work permit and travel a lot as part of my work. In addition to the trip I mentioned in that thread, I am scheduled to leave Canada before my current permit expires and return after the expiry date. Should my new work permit arrive before I travel, then this is no problem. However, that would require my work permit extension to take only 2 months to process and the current processing time is 86 days. In my cover letter I explained this problem and requested that my work permit be expedited so that I am able to take my business trip. Are CIC likely to take this into consideration or will it take 86 days regardless?

Thanks!

They won't expedite. Try filing on line to see if that speeds it up. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/e-services/work.asp

Thanks for the reply, PMM. My application is already with CIC, so presumably there's nothing I can do now to speed the process up? Also, I don't suppose it matters that it's a very straightforward extension (i.e., I'm a visiting academic so no HRSDC recommendation is needed, I have no family members on the application)?
