I was wondering if anyone could help me out a bit.

I am moving back to Ontario after being in Germany for 11 years. Has anyone recently exchanged their DL from a "partnership" country who's language was not english or french?

Where did you get you DL translated?
What was the fee at MTO to exchange the license?
What was your experience? Any troubles etc?

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Hi there,

I'm from Germany and I will exchange my DL soon.

I don't know where you will be living, but here in Ontario the fee is $75.

You can look for translators in Ontario here: http://search.atio.on.ca/search/index/1
I will be using the lady who translated my German police certificate for me, she is charging $40 (tax incl.) which is a good price.

I've had some trouble, but only because I lost my German DL in Canada last August, then I was told that I have to come to Germany to apply for a new one. Fortunately, a few weeks ago I found out that my mom could take care of it on my behalf and now my new German DL is on the way to me so I can exchange it very soon.

As long as you have the actual DL with you, the translation and the fee, there shouldn't be any problems.
I think it takes about 4 weeks to get a new DL here in Ontario.

Good luck!

Franzi

Thanks Franzi!

So it takes about 4 weeks! That's a long time.

I need to buy a car as soon as I get there, although apparently you need an ontario DL to get your plates. Hopefully they will give me some kind of paper that says I have one.

Well, when my husband got his renewed, it took 4 weeks.. so it might as well be faster?!

I got my new German one in 1 week, I was really surprised that it was so fast!
