Exchange UK license for Ontario license, less than 2 years driving, need to take G1 test?

Hi all,

I have a question. When exchanging a UK license in Ontario, do you need to take the G1 road test if you have over one year but less than two years driving experience? Or can you obtain the G2 license without taking a test?

The info on the internet is confusing. I sent an email inquiry but never received a reply.

I don't know about the full license, but I had a provisional and swapped it for a learners permit here. It allowed me to get a full Canadian license after I passed (no waiting)

Thanks so much for responding! Was it in Ontario? Did they give you a G1 or G2, and without road test? And then after the two years, you did the G2 road test?

No I am in Newfoundland. I had to do another written test and a road test, but after that I was free to drive without restrictions.
