Hi,

We will be moving to Calgary shortly from US.

Our current US drivers license will be expiring( visa expiry) before we move to Canada.

Is it possible for us to exchange US driver’s license to Canada driver’s license after expiry?

What are the exact documents needed for driver’s license?

When I try to get the driving history from my state website. There are several options.

Should we get the complete driving history( Type 3A )or the abstract record of the driving history( Type AR)?

Thanks

I suspect that an expired US DL cannot be exchanged for a valid Canadian DL. You will likely need to obtain a new one. Maybe consider renewing your current DL, so that you can present a valid DL to be exchanged.

From the Google:
Applying for a new driver’s licence in Alberta based on previous driving experience in your home country

If you have previous driving experience and a valid licence in your home country, you may belong to one of the following categories:

  1. You’re moving from a country where Alberta has a reciprocal arrangement for driver’s licence
  2. You’re moving from a country where Alberta does not have a reciprocal arrangement for driver’s licence:

We have already applied for DL but it’s gone to SAVE check which is taking more than a month now. Not sure what to do?

More than likely due to your expired DL, since the info above states that you can only exchange a valid DL from a reciprocal country. Can you not renew your current DL before it expires? That would seem to be a good plan.
