Example Job title match but Job description doesnt match my NOC 2145

I am a Mud Engineer (Drilling Fluid Engineer) which does fall under 2145 Petroleum engineers (mud engineer – petroleum drilling in all titles).

The problem is that the duties of a mud engineer are quite different from those specified on the NOC 2145 page.
I can partially justify just one duty: Direct and monitor oil and gas drilling operations (which includes mud)

I am preparing documents to apply next month for NOC 2145 but many people say that you need to match at least 80% of job responsibilities but I am pretty sure that almost all subcategories of petroleum engrs like reservoir, production, drilling, subsea can match 2-3 responsibilities if they are honest.

I am working in a multinational and they will never write something else other than my real duties.

Please advise if this is OK.

The title of your job isn't important. It's the responsibilities that are important. If your duties only match one responsibility for NOC 2145, I think you may have difficulty being approved.

Conduct feasibility assessment studies for developing new oil and gas fields- RESERVOIR ENGINEER
Direct and monitor oil and gas drilling operations - OPERATION ENGINEER
Develop drilling programs, select sites and specify drilling fluids, bit selection, drill stem testing procedures and equipment - DRILLING ENGINEER
Direct and monitor the completion and evaluation of wells, well testing and well surveys - DRILLING ENGINEER
Design and select artificial lift machinery, and well and surface production equipment and systems, and specify programs for corrosion control and oil or gas treatment - PRODUCTION ENGINEER
Develop specifications for and monitor and supervise well modification and stimulation programs to maximize oil and gas recovery - PRODUCTION ENGINEER
Analyze reservoir rock and fluid data to design optimum recovery methods and to predict reservoir performance and reserves - RESERVOIR ENGR
Monitor and forecast oil and gas reservoir performance and recommend oil recovery techniques which extend the economic life of wells - RESERVOIR ENGR
Design, develop and co-ordinate the installation, maintenance and operation of subsea well-head and production equipment - SUBSEA ENGR

So no petroleum engr can even match half job responsibilities.

Agreed, its a vast domain of responsibilities. Try to be proactive and innovative while using the terminologies from your current job. I am sure you will have enough to get you through.

Even my manager was surprised when i gave him such a long description as a guideline for letter.
He says he has never wrote such lengthy reference letters

I graduated as Petroleum Engineeer. Presently working in a Natural gas transmission company as a Pipeline Engineer. My job profile is more of a MEchanical Engineer , into designing and projects execution of Construction activities as managing activities and overview.

But in my profile it is mentioned Qualification: B.Tech (Petroleum Engineering)

I want to apply with NOC 2145 as petroleum engineer.

Please guide me under which category should i Apply !?!

I satisfy all other conditions to be eligible for application (IELTS , ECA,etc..)

But i feel if your job experience suits Mechnical Engg, you should apply for it.

Don't try and send such non-standard letters. CIC visa officers (who are not engineers themselves) are trained to spot things as creative manipulation of job duties.

For example, one of the duties is the sample would require a senior position and no one with less then 5 years experience would be doing it and if someone with 1 year experience say they are doing it (maybe true) it makes the visa officer suspicious (does not mean rejection, but complicates the process for the applicant).

If your duties match those described in the NOC (don't worry if it is not exact, CIC only gives generalized examples) then you should not have any problems, otherwise do not apply for this NOC.

Petroleum Engineering & Pipeline Engineer same ?? Whr to apply !!

With studies in Petroleum Engineering i work in gas pipeline company .Now, my job responsibilities in company for an year were of Mechanical engineer( technical services & designing ) and now i look after Civil activities into pipeline construction . MY WCS education evaluation shows petroleum engineering.

There fore, pipeline engineer profile and Engineering in PETROLEUM ENGINEERING 2145 NOC, where should i apply for?? with which NOC code I should apply for.

So what did you do next? Could you give me some advice?

Dear Friendds,

I'm a well logging Engineer in Schlumberger, My manager wrote me a reference letter stating that my job duties are the following:

- Prepare and execute a Logging Job.
- Acquisition of petrophysical and geophysical data inside oil wells
- Prepare logging report to be used in predicting the Hydrocarbon quality and quantity.
- Measure the reservoir fluid pressure and permeability to be used in estimating the reservoir performance.
- Determine the casing and cement condition of the oil wells.
- Perforate the wells in order to produce the oil.

Can you please advise me if they are good or I ask him to modify some thing.
