Hi guys,

Hope everyone's application is going well.
Side note: Double check all the information on the online application.


I am currently doing CEC residency application.

I dated a guy and we lived together. Even though we technically were over we were living together before I left to save money etc I stupidly had included him on my family information when I applied for my working holiday visa (which I am currently here on) as we were living together and I was trying to be honest about everything - maybe too honest. anyway we aren't in touch and I am now in another relationship so its awkward how to note this.

It does suck cause I am met someone awesome and this past kinda throws shade on the application :/

Not sure how best to mention this in my application.
Ex and I moved in in Jan 2011 (so is that date of the sat 2012?????)
I put the end date as after I had applied for my IEC visa.

Its so dumb and whilst I am trying to be logical the blimen emotions are the problem I am trying to keep it simple and not sure if i should even mention it in my letter of explanation (where I have everything else!!!)

Any advise would be appreciated. I've seen a few threads but not to many relating to this,

Nope I came by myself single ... guess I just need to explain it simply... it's the simple part I'm struggling with!!

I wouldn't stress about it. It's a common situation. I'd simply explain that you were together at the time you applied for your IEC visa and you seperated before you arrived. As an example, my wife and I got married in NZ after we had applied for our IEC visas. We entered the country together and told the border agents the truth, that at the time we had applied for our visas, we weren't married. They had no problem with it at all

Cool thanks ktmerritt. What would I put as the start of that common law... the year we moved in, the year after or 2 years after (nz common law recognized)

I'm not 100% sure, but I would put the date that you deemed yourself to be in a relationship with this person. Because you are no longer together, CIC are unlikely to scrutitinize it. The don't particulary care about previous relationships you've had. The past is the past right?

Common-Law start date is the day 12 months AFTER you started cohabiting, not the date you moved in together.
