Evidence for intention to follow spouse to Canada with PR

I was wondering what proof people have given for the intention to follow your spouse to Canada when their PR is confirmed? We currently live in England (my spouse is British) and we intend to move over to Canada, but I am not sure how they expect me to prove this when I can't get a job lined up a year in advance and we will not be buying a house right away but moving in with my parents for a while.

Any past examples that have been successful would be really helpful at this stage.

My wife and I are in the UK, and would only move once PR is confirmed. In our application we showed evidence of house/rental inquiries (where might we live, what can we afford) and opening of a bank account in Canada - nothing definitive or fully committing but actions you would expect to be done as part of sound planning for a big move. We wrote a cover note that we have 2 children together and have no intention of being apart during the potentially one year application process (hence sponsor being outside of Canada). Spousal approval to sponsor was given the day after AOR, so assuming that was sufficient to show intent. The principal application is still in process though.

My suggestion based on my experience is: explain why you are not in Canada now, explain why you would travel with your spouse, and give evidence that you have thought about how you as sponsor will make the move (e.g bank accounts, housing enquiries - emails to family showing intention to stay with them whilst you get on your feet, job market searches or notifications to your employer that you are planning a move, etc). Don’t over complicate it, the narrative should write itself. If they need more, or have doubts, I am sure they will ask.

Some people need a lot more evidence than this, rather than just a narrative. I hope your processing continues, but you may still be requested to provide further proof of intent to return. Just telling them you've thought about it isn't sufficient sometimes, you need proof of searches, letters from family, etc.

Yeah, I was very thorough and provided as much proof as humanly possible with our original application, including a 3-page narrative document, and they still have requested additional information (hopefully because we are getting close to approval now). They do seem to be sticklers for this these days, so it pays to do your research and prepare.

Note that proving intent to return has nothing to do with sponsor approval. It is reviewed near the end of the process. They likely haven't even looked at your intent proofs yet.

Indeed -- we even got the pre-arrival letter before the request for additional proof.
