Hello all,
I had an eTA issued back in 2016 when I applied for a study permit and this eTA was valid until December 2021. I was not sure when it would expire so I checked on their website and it says that it was approved with expiration date December 2021. But then below it says
"Following an assessment of your file, it has been determined that you no longer meet the requirements for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). As a result, your eTA has been cancelled. Your file is now closed. Should you wish to reapply for an eTA, we encourage you to do so only once you have addressed the reason(s) for the cancellation of your application. At that time, you may submit a new application at www.canada.ca/eTA. You are no longer considered to hold a valid eTA. As such, you should not plan or undertake any travel to Canada."
So then I checked my son's old one, that I know is also expired (he had a new one since then that is still valid) and it says approved with expiration in December 2020. But then below it says:
" Your eTA has expired. An eTA is valid for up to five years or until your passport expires, whichever comes first. Should you wish to reapply for an eTA, we encourage you to do so by submitting a new application at www.canada.ca/eTA."
Why the difference between our 2 files ? Was my eTA "cancelled" because I was refused an extension of work permit recently ? ( I still have a valid one until January 2023). Does anyone know if that means I cannot get a new eTA if I apply for it ? And I was planning to go flapole to apply for a new work permit, is there now a risk of doing that based on what is written on my eTA ??
Also on their website, it says:
"
An eTA can be cancelled in cases where information comes to light that you have become inadmissible to Canada. At that point, an immigration officer would cancel your eTA and let you know by email. If your application was cancelled, you should not travel to Canada. If you decide to travel to Canada with a cancelled eTA, you will be prevented from boarding your flight to Canada. We encourage you to reapply for an eTA only once you have addressed the reason(s) leading to the cancellation of your application."
I never received any email about cancellation of this eTA so I am wondering if it is just a glitch because it is now expired or if really it was cancelled and then why, since I still have a valid work permit. I know in both cases I would need an eTA if I want to travel by plane but just wondering and want to make sure I am ok to go flapgole.
Edit: I also checked the new eTA of my son and it is still valid. Then I checked my husband's one which is also expired and it says the same as mine but he was not refused any permit and his permit is valid until 2025. So I think it is probably ok but still if anyone has experience with this I would be thankful for your input
Thanks for your help !
