Update on eTA situation: I emailed the Sydney visa office and they replied almost straight away letting me know that my eTA has not been cancelled and is still valid. So I’m guessing that the online eTA status checker must have an issue at the moment where it is telling people that their eTA’s have been cancelled even when they have not. So for future reference don’t use the online eTA checker! It does not work and will create unnecessary stress! Thank you everyone for your help!
This must be a huge relief for you. Quite honestly, it did not make sense that your eTA was "cancelled". Thanks for the update.

Have a wonderful holiday :):)

Hi jbks,

Thanks for posting this thread and the resolution, as I'm exactly in the same position: my eTA is approved until 2022, and I've been to Canada many times (maybe 7 or 8 over the last 10 years) to visit my wife's family (she's from Calgary but we live in Barcelona). Never did I have any issues, or did anything wrong whilst in the country (neither in my country for that matter...)

Anyway, i just checked the Government's eTA status tool, and shows exactly the same: the "status" says it's approved, but in the final box, it says that upon reviewing the file, the eTA is cancelled, etc (exact same wording as in your post).

So from what you say, I really should not worry and proceed with the trip, right? thanks!

PS: i´ve seen similar posts by people in other forums (e.g. tripadvisor, etc), dating back to 2016, so it´s a bit shocking that if it´s a software issue, that it still has not been resolved...

I'm in the very same position. I'll email the visa office close to my location to find that out.
Thank you very much for the help provided guys!!

Hi Icocio,

Just to let you know: I flew to Canada last month without any issues: the Border Control agent did not mention anything about the 'eTA cancelled' status. So I would recommend that you enter Canada without any concerns, but just in case, have the email ready where they said that your eta is approved and valid until 202x.

Hope this helps!

Will do. I'm scheduled to fly out on the 24th this month.... I'll print the email just in case... Thanks for the help!

Hi,
Were you able to travel to Canada, as am in the same situation, my ETA status say approved, expired 26/02/2026, but the message say cancelled the same thing as you please any update about your ETA were you able to fly without no issue thanks

hey, did this work out for you? I'm a little worried (same error message) that I'd be denied entry.

It did work out. Been in Canada for over 3 months already. In any case, they checked your eTA in the counter before boarding. But like OP said, print all out just in case, email the visa office close to your location (if not in same country) and have them confirm the status. Make sure you are using a valid passport

Well my situation is slightly different. I am already in Canada now and have been for nearly 5 months. I was planning to go back home and then come back, but then saw that weird status message. My (soon to be) ex wife moved here with our children and hence I'm working on getting my PR.
Now I saw that the other option, while waiting on a permanent status, is to apply for an extension of status of my is do to this: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...hange-conditions-extend-your-stay-canada.html
For the love of God though, I cannot find the right place to actually apply online. If I go to my "online account" it asks me to hit continue, then I end up choosing language, and then I'm basically back at the intrusions on how to fill out the online application. Any idea where I can find the actual online application? I promise I'm not (super) stupid but it's been driving me insane... :D)

What do you mean by working to get your PR? When you entered Canada what did you say were your reasons for entering and were you already separated?

Following an assessment of your file, it has been determined that you no longer meet the requirements for an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). As a result, your eTA has been cancelled.

Your file is now closed. Should you wish to reapply for an eTA, we encourage you to do so only once you have addressed the reason(s) for the cancellation of your application. At that time, you may submit a new application at www.canada.ca/eTA.

You are no longer considered to hold a valid eTA. As such, you should not plan or undertake any travel to Canada.

Please can anyone tell me how to address the reason(s) for the cancellation of your application.

Because the messages came as a shock to me.

Your application has been cancelled for the following reason(s):
You have misrepresented or withheld material facts relating to a matter that induced or could have induced an error in the administration of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act which would render you inadmissible to Canada as per section 40(1)(a).

You are no longer considered to hold a valid eTA. As such, you should not plan or undertake any travel to Canada by air. If you do decide to travel to Canada, you may experience delays or be prevented from boarding your flight and/or entering Canada.

Then I go tro the section 40(1)a it was not applicable to me because I did not use any documents to apply I only apply with my Mexican passport number that all.

Did you fail to declare a past refusal to Canada or any other country?
