Hi

i have an approved closed WP - ICT , my company operates in canada as well.It serves both US & canada clients.Right now i am working for a US client.I have been requested by my employer to relocate to canada.

Given the circumstances, what are the chances of my entry getting denied

Can anyone share your experiences

Pretty high. Unless your job is directly related to healthcare or essential services that support Canadians, you'll be turned away.

Thanks for your response. My work falls under information technology which is considered as essential service.Do you think that will make any difference?

Honestly, it totally depends on the CBSA officer that admits you. Ultimately, it's at their discretion whether information technology is essential or not. When I tried, the officer denied my entry, saying only healthcare workers were allowed through.

My point being, you really won't know until you get there. Therefore, I'd say it's highly risky to travel to the border - unless you are close by and can spare the resources to do so, I'd wait.

By the way - if you don't mind sharing, when did you apply for your closed WP and when did you get approval? Did you apply online? What's your nationality/where did you apply?

@scylla My work permit (ICT) is already approved and i have the visa stamped(valid till dec 2021) in my PP .All this process was completed in Nov 2019.
i did not travel to canada yet.Still in US .

I already have an employment with the company. It has locations in US and Canada. Now the company is requesting me to work from canada office

@marrymechrispratt - I am indian , working in US with a company , it has office in canada as well.I applied for canada WP (ICT) in Oct 2019.Got approved in Nov 2019 and had my visa stamped also in Nov 2019

Did anyone manage to travel to canada by air with WP?

Ok, I just did . If anyone has any questions please let me know. It is a smooth process to travel to canada as long as you have a work permit approval letter/ WP and valid Job.

Could you please provide details on what docs did you carry and did you travel with dependents? Anyother info that could help us if we get approval and plan to enter canada via Air ?

Spouse did not accompany me and IT was just me . However I think authorization letter is not needed if spouse is coming with us . (Double check with airline though)
Origin Chicago

Just carry WP Approval letter+ letter from your employer confirming your job offer is still valid (no specific format, I just took it in his letterhead). No dependent travelled with me
