Hi everyone,

I am a US citizen, my wife is Canadian (married in the US on a K-1). We both currently reside in the US, but am planning to move back to Canada together, possibly sooner rather than later.

Would it be a problem if we simply pack up a U-Haul and drive through the border, then have her file to sponsor me for PR? Or is this not allowed, and our only option is to file for outland?

Our primary goal is to not have to be apart, but we would like to move back sooner if at all possible.

Thank you!

It's fine if she drives the u-haul across alone. You are not allowed to move to Canada at this time and should travel separately. We've seen people end up with big problems at the border when they've tried moving their belongings before they are authorized to live here. As long as you travel separately and your wife deals with the u-haul, you should be fine.

That sounds like it would work :) if I enter as a visitor and then she files to sponsor me, would I be allowed to stay until the application is approved?

If you apply as inland with open work permit, then yes, you will be allowed to stay and work till a decision made on your application or the expiration of your open work permit. If you apply as outland, you can also stay in Canada with TRV extension approval, usually one extension is enough to cover the period of processing your application, but you cannot work in Canada.
