Just sent off our passports for the visa stamp. Want to go over in a few months for a brief trip, not taking belongings with us purely a job/school hunting trip. Have heard on the grapevine though that you are expected to stay in Canada for awhile, and they don't look kindly on people flitting in and then trying to get in properly later. I thought once we had the passports stamped then we could come and go as we pleased and that only the first trip in with stamps would be the long and involved conversation with the customs and immigrations officers. Please help someone as we want to book flights asap, but not if it means there will be trouble getting in again later on in the summer.

Thanks alot in advance for any useful advice anyone can offer.

- So far my understanding is that landing as an immigrant/PR is a smooth process at the port of entry. Make sure that you show them the mentioned amount of balance available with you. Yes, once you enter you can leave again soon. Again you can re enter. Just make sure you have a Canadian address to receive your PR card. Once you have PR card you can get in and out of Canada as many times as you want. However, to retain your PR status you have to be in Canada in total 3 years out of five years. (I am a little confused about the 3 years it could be 2 years in total. Just check with others).

Thank you very much for that, it is very helpful and reassuring to know. One thing though, I wasn't entirely sure what you meant by the "mentioned amount of balance available with you" ?

- For 1 person approximate CDN$11000. I guess it is in the guideline. It also shows you the calculation for more than one person to land. If you have arranged employment then no need to show the money.
