Entry Into Canada as UK Consultant

Hello, I'm not sure if anyone can answer this or shed any light on it but I have a question about work while in Canada.

I am British, currently living in the UK and I am in the process of submitting my perminant visa as a skilled worker (via express entry) and hoping to land in canada (Ontario) early-mid 2019. I do not currently have a job offer in Canada, and I was planning on leaving my current employment in the UK when I get my Visa.

My current employer however has offered to make me a consultant for the company for 3-6 months after I leave so I can complete company projects and allow me to have an income while looking for a full time job in Canada.

My question is whether I am allowed to work as a consultant for my previous UK employer while I am actively looking for a job in Canada for the first few months or can I only have a job with a Canadian company as soon as I land?.

Any information about this would be fantastic.

You'll have to report foreign income when you file your tax. But this doesn't concern immigration.
