Hello All,

Im a Nov 2018 outland applicant from India.
Received medicals, received DM for sponsor and my application was forwarded to mississauga 2 weeks ago.

1. What stage should we expect next, CO-PR ?

2. I was wondering after we are done with the passport formalities, can we enter canada any time or do they give us a date that we are supposed to land there ?

Am a bit confused about when to inform my workplace of my departure.

Thanks.

The time frame when u have to land is valid until your passport is valid or medicals (not too sure about medical) after u receive COPR so you can tell your workplace about your departure when you get your passport request. Next stage before CoPR is your eligibility, criminality securtiy check all under background and then the pre arrival, decision made then Passport request.

You are 'jumping the gun' by a lot! This is still very early in the overall process.

You can hope for 'decision made' - followed by passport request and CoPR issue around November 2019.

Around that time you will be asked for your (original) passport. They will fix a visa in it and issue you with a CoPR (Confirmation of Permanent Residence). You will have until the expiry date shown on the CoPR to land in Canada and declare PR - but you can of course land at any time between getting your original passport back and the CoPR until the CoPR expiry date to land - your choice when. The expiry date of the CoPR is usually (but not always) one year from the date of your medical.

Hey abhisheknair1989

As others mentioned, you have completed the first couple phases of your application and the actual evaluation of your application has just began. For my timeline, please see below in my signature block.

The next stage is the evaluation of your wife's eligibility.

In this stage, IRCC checks whether your wife is actually your wife (i.e. is your relationship real, or is it a fake marriage). For us, this stage took 6 months in the Hong Kong Visa Office (VO). During this time, IRCC may request further infomration from you such as how you are preparing your new lives in Canada (how are you severing your ties in your home country and how are you planning to establish yourselves in Canada)

After the eligibility stage is done, and if no concerns from IRCC, they might issue you a pre-arrival letter.

Next is the background check

This is to check for anything that will render your wife inadmissible to Canada. This will check her:

1. Criminal history
2. Military Services (if any)
3. Political history (for example, are you member of the Communist Party? ISIS? IRA?)
4. Among others

For us, the background check took 3 weeks

We got PPR today

When to land

So, when you submit the passport, it must be valid for at least 6 months. After you get the CoPR, you have two landing deadlines to keep in mind:

1. 1 year from your medical result (if you got your result on 03 Feb 2019, then you last date of landing is 02 Feb 2020)

2. Before the expiry of your passport.

Whichever 1 or 2 comes first.

The road ahead of you is long and difficult, but the reward is well worth it.
