I am returning to Canada with expired PR card and my parents are with me too. My father had got major accident and could not return few years ago. He finished his treatment in 2014 and then his father is ill and just passed away a month ago. We just sold our house and had purchased apartment in Canada this year, where my sister lives in (she has returned to Canada for college in 2013 and she has a valid PR card now). I am checking if any new advise on the chance to be successful. We just arrived in the US with B1/B2 visa and plan to enter through US border.

How long did you stay in Canada? You can enter by car from USA with your passport and COPR.

Thank you. I entered smoothly, I stayed less than 2 years so I should wait until I have completed 2 years to apply? I will start my university in September in Canada.

Wait for 2 years and apply for PR card. Immigration officers report you or not while entering Canada?

Hopefully without PR card you will have no issues proving you are a domestic student in UNI.

Good luck anyway with your future back in the country

I think I am not reported. I was sent to secondary but the person handling it is super nice, only asked about where I was and why I returned then gave me back my passports and my expired PR card and told me "you are all set". I assume if I was reported, he should have told me?

Hi Josh2016,

My PR card just expired and I have the travel outside of Canada in 2 months time. I am applying to renew my PR card under urgent processing but I am concerned it may not be issued in time given the current wait times. I was thinking in the worst case scenario, I'll have to fly in to the US and travel by private vehicle. Can you clarify:

1. How recently you entered Canada without PR card.
2. What documents and proof of residency you carried with you?
3. Are you a holder of a passport that can enter Canada visa exempt?

Thanks!

Hi Bigsho, I entered with expired PR card and with my landing record plus valid foreign country passport. I am not from exempt country, I have to explain my situation why I did not return earlier and why I have decided to come now in the immigration office in the border

Yes, the officer was very pleased with my answers seem like. The secondary was only like only 5 minutes. I answered all questions honestly. It was much better than my expectation.
