Yes, just be open about it.

But on other hand, why delay landing? It's not that onerous or time consuming a process, and minimal difference if you're moving a couple months later.

Perfectly fine if you prefer but not much reason to do so. And some potential pluses.

It raises a question as I intend to travel alone for the visit.

With outland spousal sponsorship my sponsor and I must intend to settle in Canada together. This we intend to do, but can I as the PR 'applicant', with a COPR, arrive and do a ' soft landing' on my own, with my sponsor and I returning to settle permanently at a later date? Or, must we both 'land' (hard of soft) together?

Your spouse is a citizen? Basically doesn't matter, if it comes up just note your spouse is arriving a bit later. Never heard of border officers raising this.
