Entering Canada for an inland Spousal Sponsorship

Hello everyone, I am looking for some advice on entering Canada on a multiple entry tourist visa. My intention of entering Canada is to marry my partner of 3 years and then apply for an inland spousal sponsorship.

I am very uncertain of what information to disclose to the immigration officers at the border on arrival in Vancouver. My gut tells me to be open and honest and tell them exactly what my plans are however I have read a few threads that suggest that mentioning that I am entering in order to get married may cause some issues.

The long story here is that we applied for a conjugal application (without researching that appropriately) and have been trying to withdraw that application for the past two months (via webform and with the Manila office) with no success (they have not got back to us). We got engaged a few months ago and decided to go to Canada and proceed with an inland sponsorship application. I am flying to Canada on the 19th of January and we are getting married at the end of March. I have not booked a return ticket but have sufficient funds available to support myself for a six month period.

So, what is the general consensus here? Be open and upfront with immigration officers that I am entering to get married and apply for permanent residence OR offer less information and tell them that I am just coming to visit my girlfriend? My main concern with the second option is if they start asking more questions, I do not want to get tangled up in a web of half truths.

If anyone has any personal experience with a similar issue, I would really appreciate any advice.

Many Thanks
Dean

Hi, I think not having a return ticket is your first problem you may have with immigration as you are entering Canada as a visitor so they will want to see your ties to your home country and that you will leave at the end of your stay.( even if you apply to extend your stay during the process) Don't lie to them either, this will come back to bite you in the bum later. Be honest with them and tell them you will be marrying your fiancé here. If you can show them proof of payment of your application they can see you have dual intent.

Good Luck !

You have applied for conjugal spousal sponsorship. You are in their system. I think they know why you want to come to Canada.

Try to show strong ties to your home country and be honest on your TRV applicant. (There is little you can really hide)
And wish for the best. You may want to look into plan B as getting married in your home country or another country and apply outland in case you don't get this TRV approved.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Just to update this post. I arrived on the 19th of January at Vancouver. I was open and honest with the immigration officer and I was let in after he asked me a few questions about my past and what my plan is for the future. I am getting married in March and will submit my inland application for PR, application for Open Work Permit etc soon after that.

Hi Dean,
Congrats. I am in the same situation, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
My girlfriend and I want to do the same thing. I want to invite her here on a tourist visa, get married and then submit her inland application for PR.
Any idea what I should write in the invitation letter. I have visited her before in her country and I a canadian citizen.

Thanks

Definitely do not mention getting married or inland sponsorship in the tourist visa application. That will pretty much guarantee a refusal.

When she applies, she should simply say that she wants to visit for 1-3 weeks. She will need to provide evidence of strong ties to her home country (job, property, assets) to demonstrate she has ties to her home country and has no plans on remaining in Canada long term. She will also want to demonstrate that she has enough money to pay for her trip here (best if she shows these funds rather than relying on you).

Thanks for the quick reply , but when I apply for the PR, wouldn't they know that we lied to get the visa. Another question, I will be the one sending her the letter of invitation, What should I write in the letter? thanks again

Hey Guys,

Please help. My husband and I got married April 2018 in India. I have now gathered all necessary documents for his outland application and About to send it out.

But looking at some of the INLAND Application forums, I am thinking differently. I am wondering if I should apply for his visitor visa instead and once he comes here to apply for his OWP and inland sponsorship application.

My whole idea behind thinking differently is because he could be with me sooner if his visitor visa gets approved rather than waiting a year apart while his OUTLAND application is in process.

Please advice.

TIA

Don't post the same thing across multiple threads. Post once in the appropriate thread and wait for answer.
