@ Khanboy, couldn't help but pull your leg on this one ;-) I guess the idiom that fits best here is "making a mountain out of a mole hill" which means to make a big deal out of a minor issue. "Beat around the bush" means talking about something indirectly and not coming to the point. Again, no offense meant. Just pointing out an interesting fact. And I completely second your opinion.

@ Hindu_Sikh_Bro_Bro, I wonder if you have looked at the number of posts beside Rupesh Hari's name and his status. Before you start criticizing him on his spelling, maybe you should look at how philanthropic and magnanimous he has been these past months in helping others, without expecting anything in return. Just look at the FAQ, the first sticky post, and you will see just how helpful he has been. Now who would go to such lengths to help others? Hats off to him for that!

Thanks. Might be you did not understand what I meant still we are beating about the bush! Aren't we!

Well I will use the idiom abt mole and hill when appropriate!

Dear All,

Thank you for all the advices on the forum. I got the reply finally that I have to submit docs within 120 days. Although I applied before new rules to london office and my application was delayed due to unknown reason and was sent to Nova Scotia. Fortunately I got the reply 3 weeks back to start process.

I wanted to know can someone has a template/letter for the English language if you are looking for IELTS exemption so I can have an idea how to go about it just for starting! Do let me know so I will give you my email address for file attachment. Thank you for the help.

Good Luck to all of you.

Take care
Khan boy

I heard that its almost impossible to get the points without IELTS.

Hi Khan.

We claimed full points for 'English language skill', We did this only because we live in such state, from where we can't take IELTS. And for the test we needed to Drive atleast 10 hour. And now we are scheduled for an interview and need to drive 14 hour to get there. Probably they want to see how fluent we are in english.

Anyways, here are some hints on how we prepared our letter,

1. We started with basic background. (who we are)
2. Then our school life.( explained how our schools prepared us for english)
3. Then a little bit about ariving USA for higher studies.( if you are in USA)
4. Explained how we use english at our work environment.
5. Then comes social life in USA (as most of them are english spoken)
5. And at last claiming full points for those above reasons.

How did that work out for you?

Well I think I told you that I did the same in covering letter and provide uni's reference from head of department on uni letter head for English language proficiency. Basically I provided reference letter for English language.

But as English is our second language we need to sit IELTS does not matter how far it is!

Better start preparing for that!

Cheers

What if English is your first language. There has got to be a substitute for ILETS and/or if your ILETS scores are little lower then what was needed to make that up.

Well the presumption is that if English is your first language then you can attain a great score (i am guessing). I am sure i can't make 16 and English is my first language.

People,

Without prejudice and with all due to respect to everybody, with the way some sentences are constructed on this forum (by people who have taken IELTS), I cannot imagine how people on this forum have been scoring above 12. What I am trying to get to is, that IELTS (though the required general standard by CIC) is not the true test of one's Language proficiency (English).

Again, we keep on saying English needs to be your first Language. What is the definition of English being your first Language?
Is it being White and come from a country like England, Ireland,(UK), Canada, USA, Australia etc or is it that your Mother's tongue has to be English? What if ones Mother is dumb and cannot speak, but she is English? (LOL)

Your performance on that Exam day depends on a lot of factors, e.g The Examiner, how you feel on that day etc.
A lot of people who are good may not make good results because they are stressed and nervous etc.

Man, believe it or not I have seen Asians and Africans speak better English,(better use of Grammar and Vocabulary)!!

However and whatever, I guess, we all have no choice but to abide to the rules of CIC.

My take on it is that if your first language is not English, you are better off taking IELTS or you are leaving it in the hands of the visa officer how many points you will get. If you have an Academic IELTS and it's still valid, use it. There have been cases where they have been accepted.

If you write a letter to explain your proficiency, get somebody to proofread for you. You do not want to send a letter to CIC explaining your English proficiency that is full of spelling errors and grammatical mistakes :)
