Is it ok to apply for an employment visa after graduating once I successfully found an employer who will give me an offer letter? I will be graduating this April 2018 and I have with me is my husband who has open work permit with the same validity as my student visa on July 31. Please advise what would be the best option to take.

You need to apply for a PGWP within 90 days of finishing your program.

Thanks for replying. I do understand that. However, I believe I also need to have work under skil type 0, A, B the moment I apply for pgwp so that my husband will still get an open work permit otherwise I dnt know what will be my husband’s visa when I apply for pgwp without work yet.

In order for your husband to renew his open work permit, you don't just need to have a NOC A, B or 0 job offer, you must have actually already started the job and be able to provide three pay slips to prove you are working in that role.

I personally would not wait to apply for a PGWP, Sometimes they are returned due to being incomplete.

If you are not yet working in a NOC A, B or 0 job by the time your husband's OWP is expiring, he will need to convert his status to visitor and stop working. Once you have a job that meets the requirements, he can then apply for a new OWP.

Can he just apply for a separate paper? I mean, if ever he’s able to find an employer and get a job offer. Also, if he convert his status to visitor, will it be an application separate to my pgwp or I will apply my pgwp then inclusive to that is my husband’s application as tourist because he will still accompany me here in canada?

If he wants to apply for a work permit on his own, he would need a job offer and his employer would also need to obtain an approved LMIA. Obtaining an approved LMIA typically takes 4-6 months.

He would apply to change his status to visitor separately and you would apply for the PGWP separately.

Thanks for clarifying. Really appreciate it. I am seeing list of requirements in applying for tourist visa. But that’s when you are applying outside canada. How about in my husband’s case where he is already here inside canada? Does he need proof of income or bank statement? Or I need to provide that because it will show that I will support my husband while he is here?
