Employed AND self-employed at the same time, will this affect my CEC application?

Hello there,

I have a question regarding the eligibility for applying under CEC.

I am in a PGWP, I currently have a full time job where i get payslips, deductions and all of that. After I've been in this job for a year, I'm planning on applying to PR through CEC

but on the side, during my nights and weekends, I also work freelance for other clients that have nothing to do with my day job

So i guess you could say I am employed and self employed at the same time.

so my question is, would being self employed at the same time as being employed jeopardize my application for CEC somehow?

No, why should it? If you are authorized to work self-employed, it's okay. But it won't give you points.

Did you file taxes for your weekend income? Do you have T4s and all that stuff that comes with self employment? I personally think including that could be a hassle to include that.

Not much of a hassle. Filing your taxes is pretty straightforward as one box guides you to another, and you can look up the guides. There is a separate field for self-employed income on the tax form and additional forms that you need to fill out for every "type" of self-employment you perform. E.g. you work as a self-employed cleaner and a self-employed nanny, then you fill out two of the same forms for each profession declaring your income and deductions, if any. Then you carry over that amount from that form to the main form.

Usually, self-employed people get T4A slips. But I have also read that T4 slips can list self-employed in a separate box.

It's correct.

As long as you filed your taxes for your self employed income, you will be fine.
You will also need to list it (not in your profile as you won't use it for your ITA, but once you are invited you need to disclose all activity).

If you did not file your taxes on this self employed income then you can either come clean to CRA (it is called voluntary disclosure and if done properly, it can avoid penalties, court decisions and negatively impacting your PR application) or pray.
