First of all congratulations, Please let me explain about two things: visa and study permit.
Visa:
A visa is a conditional authorization granted by country to enter that country. To allow a person having VISA to enter country is screened by Immigration officials at the port of entry. If individual satisfy the requirements of the granted visa type, the immigration official may grant the entry.
Once you are in Canada, VISA stamping does not account for anything unless you leave the country and want to enter again.
Once you enter the country, the type of status matters. For example in your case, you are student so your status will be student. After landing, you will be issued a Student Permit which will have the details of your school, hours you can work etc.
As long as the student permit is valid, your status in Canada is student even if the visa expires. If the student permit expires, you are out of status even if your visa is valid.
To question your answer:
You do not have to extend your visa after landing until you leave the Canada again. Your visa should stay valid until your entry. Your student permit should stay valid all the time while you are studying.
