Emailing cic office in Ottawa

Hi.

I wanted to know if emailing CIC Would create any problems. I wanted to check my status on my application. I also wanted to know what I should include in the email.

I also wanted to check my Spouse's status from Ottawa office. I thought of not asking the status to CIC Ottawa for atleast one more month as somewhere here on these posts someone mentioned that Ottawa would respond to queries only after 2 months from 29th May and that would be 29th July.
